Declaration of the Alliance “Solidarity without limits”

Common statement from alliance organizing the 6th of February action days across Europe.
On 6th of February we went to the streets in different European cities. United by a common struggle for a life in solidarity and dignity beyond nation state, borders and capital. The action day against fortress Europe was a further step of transnational networking to connect our struggles and face the Europe of exploitation, exclusion and oppression. We showed our solidarity with all people trying to enter Europe to find a better life demanding freedom of movement for everyone. We faced the cynical and inhuman right-wing movements which promote racism, hate and all kinds of reactionary ideologies. For us there was a need to show that we won’t let the far right to show their power across Europe. At the same time we are as sure as death that the racist movements in the streets of Europe and the anti-migration policies of the European Union and it’s Nations are player in the same game called “war on migrants”.

Actions across and beyond Europe

Pegida’s grandiously announced „european wide actionday for Fortress Europe“ actually failed in most places all by themselves – in Copenhagen, Birmingham, Helsinki, Amsterdam and Graz between 50 and 150 protestors in favor of Pegida showed up, all of them outnumbered by counter protestors who wouldn’t allow them to have their way. However, great numbers of racists gathered in Dresden, Warsaw and Prague. Pegida in Dresden once more attracted about 7000 people, in Warsaw and Prague about 2000 racists met up. Only about 100 antifascists were heavily outnumbered in Warsaw and therefore were easy prey for being encircled by the police. In Dresden 5000 people protested against Pegida, in Prague about 800 people took a stand against Blok proti Islámu (Block against Islam) and Národní demokracie (National Democracy). Half of them participated in the demonstrations held by our alliance. As it’s common at Pegida demonstrations, among the „fearful“ in many places there were greater amounts of so called „Identitarians“, all kinds of facsists and hooligans. Angry and frustrated because a first attempt to attack one of the antifascist demonstrations failed, a group of hooligans later in the night in Prague tried to set the autonomous social center „Klinika“ on fire. The police was not of much help, but we are happy to be able to announce that no one suffered severely from this attack and that among other antifascist oriented forces we have encountered a lot of solidarity.

In those place the racists had been outnumbered right from the start, their activities could be limited if not stopped. In Graz, Helsinki and Copenhagen, just as in Amsterdam, antifascist activists were able to distract the racists from what they had originally come for in different ways. In the Finnish city of Pargas and the region of Österbotten several hundred activists gathered against racism.

In Greece more than one hundred activists wanted to gather and confront the border fence in Eidomeni. The activists were stopped by Greek police forces. At the Greek-Macedonian border refugees are selected by Frontex-forces. Only Syrian, Iraqi and Afghan refugees can pass the border in a long and inhumane process. Migrants from other countries are deported to Athens and kicked out at the streets or so-called hot-spots. We remember the more than 15 people who were cruelly killed by the Spanish police forces on 6th of February 2014 at the border fence. That day hundreds of migrants tried to cross the border between Morocco and the Spanish enclosure Ceuta. The actionday #6fCeuta was called by Voix des Migrants, Alarm Phone, Afrique-Europe-Interact, NoBorders Morocco and many other migrants’ and Moroccan associations. Actions took place in Strasbourg (France), Berlin (Germany), Genova (Italy), Barcelona and Ceuta (both Spanish state). In Rabat (Morroco) more than 400 Subsaharan and Moroccan activists organized a sit-in in front of the Spanish embassy. They demonstrated against the “war on migrants” in order to claim the freedom of movement, safe flight routes and papers for all.

We showed that it’s possible to do coordinated, radical and antiauthoritarian actions on a transnational level. We need to keep on in connecting each other and create common spaces for actions, discussions and analysis. In the last years some good examples for a transnational organizing where made: the grassroots network of Afrique-Europe-Interact, the antiauthoritarian platform against capitalism Beyond Europe or the Blockupy-network. As well as we need constant palttforms we need meetings across our political fractions. As an example we can name the second Connecting European Struggles conference last year organized by our comrades from Sweden.

Let’s keep on going this way of while establishing and deepen our relations with migrant self organization. Let’s get in touch with each other and share our ideas of a free society with social equality for everyone.

The future is still unwritten!

Organize political solidarity!

Fight Fortress Europe and capitalism!

The Struggle Continues – Report on the Pegida Protests on European Action Day 06/02 2016

P_lsevogn_1002776a

We were happy to be a part of a Europe-wide resistance against the fascist Pegida network and the racist Fortress Europe on 6th of February. Scandinavia is typically notoriously absent in these Europe-wide action days which make us lose out on being a part of creating international resistance and a common internationalist movement. For us, being a part of the action day as such and crossing borders to act together with our Danish comrades and in solidarity with European antifascists and revolutionaries everywhere is an important step forward and a success in itself. The struggle against capital, nationalism and patriarchy is an international one and this has never been more true than these days of racist border controls and fascist mobilization.

In Scandinavia the image of the “humanist”, “tolerant” and even “socialist” (!) states is now badly marred by the actions of our governments. Sweden has imposed border controls which has both de facto abolished the right to asylum as well as causing huge problems for tens of thousands of daily commuters across the Öresund bridge. In Denmark the right-wing government has gone so far as to sanction the expropriation of migrants’ belongings (such as jewelry) in order to “pay” for their “stay.”

In Sweden and Denmark Pegida remains a fringe phenomenon. The Swedes appear to have been utterly unable to stage a protest alongside their fellow fascist chapters in Europe. In Denmark Pegida, also known as For Frihed (“For Freedom”), has gathered the same group of 30-70 oddballs, racists and outright neo-Nazis in Copenhagen every Monday for months in 2015 and now once every month in 2016. They did manage to boost their numbers for the 6th, joined by a Danish author and a British “mosque buster.”

The antiracist response to the Pegida march has lacked greater numbers and on the 6th we were a total of 120 activists. There are many theories to why we mobilize so few, but our Danish comrades in No Pegida and Revolutionary Antifascists have worked tirelessly to counter Pegida’s Monday marches for months, week in and week out which is a fact which they should be highly commended for. On the 6th there was an impressive blockade attempt in front of Danish parliament, constant harassment of Pegida supporters and several reported confrontations with Pegida supporters which were positive developments in a situation with as many police (also ca 120) as protestors. These actions made the police gradually lose control and move from a more passive approach at the start to violent outbursts at the end of the demonstration (where overzealous police officers were held back by their colleagues). These small and important successes aside we must, however, realize that our movement is weak at the moment and try to move beyond this fact. It is important that we discuss and evaluate this process openly. We have taken important steps to constructing a regional and international movement, but these are only the baby steps in a much larger development which requires us to better communicate, mobilize and struggle both in order to meet fascist groups and the racism inherent in the state but also in order to create a society without classes, abolish patriarchy and once and for all extinguish racism.

We would finally like to thank all the comrades from Denmark for their organizing work, our comrades from Sweden for joining in on our trip and send our greetings to everyone struggling together against fascism and Fortress Europe on 6th of February.

Organising Autonomously,

07/02/16

Solidarity without limits – action day against Fortress Europe!

On the 6th of February plenty of right-wing populists, neofascist movements and parties will come together in different places around Europe to take to the streets for their reactionary idea of  superior “people” and “nations”. On the one hand we don’t want to accept this and therefore we call you to counter them firmly together taking a stand for political solidarity! On the other hand we want to proclaim this day Europe-wide as a day of action against Fortress Europe!
The conditions in many places all over the world become more unstable with capitalism widening the gap between the poor and the rich. The neo-liberal structural changes of the 70’s and 80’s forced many areas of the global south into deep poverty and debts. After the period of colonialism those changes had once again created dependency from the “western world”. These politics bring exploitation and poverty as well as destruction of the basis of existence. Today neo-colonianism shows itself in it’s diverse forms: land grabbing, siezure of natural resources and raw materials, weaponry exports and free trade agreements, wars under the cover of “interventions to protect the human rights”, support of dictators and authoritarian regimes. One of the consequences is the death of many people not just at the European borders, but also in their home countries. The European Union is one of the major players in this game. The official politics of solving the crisis of capitalism (like austerity measures) catalyzed authoritarian and racist reactions all over the world. The fear of people losing their wealth is transformed into pure hatred against “the others I have to share with” and leads to the construction of conservative entities like nations, races and traditional gender roles.
We also see the increasing militarization on the external borders of Europe. Humans get selected according to their nationality; deportation centers get extended and new ones are to be build. To improve such inhumane systems the EU cooperates with states like Turkey, that wages war against the Kurds in their own country and supports the “Islamic State” (Daesh).
Racist movements and parties like PEGIDA, UKIP (UK Independence Party), BPI (Block Against Islam), Golden Dawn, Front National and many others,  the European immigration policies and Frontex are actors in the same play. If we really want the misery of the migrants run to end, then political pressure in the streets is necessary everywhere, so the borders open for all and safe routes for migration with dignity become possible. That means organization of protests, direct actions, civil disobedience and the establishment of spaces of solidarity.
We want to use the chance to put this subject on the agenda on the 6th of February. If the right-wing populist and reactionary movement tries to bring their politics in the streets, we will counter them. We have to point out the connection between restrictive and authoritarian European migration, austerity policies and the everyday street racism and how these are linked to capitalism and patriarchy. All of these are global mechanisms of domination and oppression that attack all of us. Therefore we have to act together.
It is necessary to organize globally to attack the european politics in order to destroy the standing ground of the right-wing. Instead of believing in national states that are capable of acting, we have to declare the solidarity across the borders, learn from each other and fight for common autonomous and open spaces. The creation of resistant, self-determined networks provides perspective for freedom for all.
We will fight for free life in social equality, beyond nations, capital and patriarchy. Together we take to the streets! We call for civil disobedience and direct actions for freedom of movement and equal rights for all. It has to be fought in a political way! We don’t want to be governed. We stand up and fight against racist and authoritarian crisis reactions of the European politics and right-wing populistic movements!
Let´s show the finger to the Fortress Europe!
Fight Fortress Europe – organize political solidarity!

Connecting European Struggles 2015

12049650_954376211252056_5125435634386098530_n

Around three hundred people joined the Connecting European Struggles meeting that took place between the 18-20th of September 2015 in Malmö, Sweden. Activists from Greece, Germany, Finland, Denmark, the UK, Sweden, France as well as other countries discussed issues concerning gender, crisis and (anarcha-)feminism.

The pan-European perspective of the meeting raised questions on similar situations and possible alliances-strategies across borders. In particular, this was touched upon by groups such as the Beyond Europe network, consisting of networks from Germany, the UK, Cyprus, Greece and Austria. Overall it appears that there is a feminist backlash in many countries and a weak feminist movement, but this differed somewhat from the Swedish experience which has a stronger feminist tradition.

One of the common denominators was the clear relation between nationalism, fascism and austerity politics in relation to controlling reproduction. Throughout Europe, women are being targeted by right-wing governments and fascists. The ‘holy’ family is a watchword for these groups and this reactionary politics goes hand in hand with economic austerity policies. Many groups across Europe commented on this issue, from PEGIDA in Germany, to Finland where neo-Nazi groups collaborate with the government party – the True Finns, to abortion resistance by Christians in the UK.

The relation between gender and capitalism was raised by groups such as e*vibes from Dresden. A local Swedish care workers’ organization discussed its experience concerning gendered class struggle in the care work sector which linked in to the topic at hand.

A common issue for groups from Greece and Sweden was that of feminism within radical social movements. Several cases where women, queers and trans people have been discriminated within the main body of these movements have motivated individuals to form their own groups. Sexism remains a rampant question within our own groups and structures all across Europe.

The conference achieved its main goal that of connecting struggles across (and beyond!) Europe as well as facilitated a discussion within and between political groups. It also grew quite a bit from the previous year and a new conference will most likely follow in 2016.
